Re: Region D Football schedules
They should be pretty decent Counts. Your assessment is pretty much accurate. Probably won't be as good on either side of the los but will have one of if not the best FB/LB in the area and same with the TE and kicker. The QB will be #10(Yates) who was a receiver last year. I wouldn't be very confident as far as making any noise in the playoffs in Div 2 but considering they will be dropping to div 1 then I think the odds look fairly good to at least have a shot at playing for a regional championship. Haysi going to D-1 is really going to change the outlook in the D-1 playoffs for years to come IMHO.
Re: Region D Football schedules
Haysi going to D-1 is better for all involved IMO as well. The Tigers will strengthen the region considerably, thus helping out whoever makes it out of Regions (if it isn't the Tigers).
Re: Region D Football schedules
I was thinking #7 was there backup QB last year? How much did #10 play at QB
Re: Region D Football schedules
"And, if you look at the playoff teams from the past 10-15 years, PV has regularly scheduled most of not all of 'em barring Haysi and Honaker."
-Like who? In Region D div 2 over the last 10-15 years it has been PV, Honaker, Haysi and Clintwood in the playoffs time and time again with an occasional Rye Cove and Gate City as of late. Who else is there to play that would be a potential playoff opponent? PV almost always plays either Haysi, Honaker or Clintwood in the playoffs and Haysi almost always plays either PV, Clintwood or Honaker and Honaker almost always plays...ah well you get the point.
"And Appy is closer to Haysi than PV is."
-Huh? Not the way I go.
"why not drive 8 more miles to play Appy ?"
-Yeah about 8 more miles which amounts to about 25 more minutes. Like I said I would love to see them schedule Appy. I guess the question could be asked just as easily why doesn't Appy schedule Haysi?
"Yeah, they have won a few games vs the LPD in the playoffs...but they have never beat a team capable of appearing in a state finals game. It may hurt, but the truth's the truth."
-Well to hear some of the people on here talk the '91 Coeburn team was the best thing since sliced bread. In a way what you said there is the truth and it may hurt some but definitely not me seeing as how it's just a bunch of kids out there playing a game. But I will give you a little more truth that may hurt some: The LPD also hasn't had that many teams capable of making the division 2 finals as of late. Now that Gate City is gone it may stay that way for awhile. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Re: Region D Football schedules
#7 was Barton who will be graduating and will not be back. #10(Yates) didn't play a whole lot at QB because Lance Compton took about every snap but he has a better arm than Lance but will just need some work on timing and getting comfortable with the position. I look for Haysi to resemble the Tigers of old a little more and put it in the air a bit more often next year.
Re: Region D Football schedules
I thought Barton had 1 more year.....Oh well with he andt #10 not playing recever that might be a problem area next season (However Haysi always seems to have a guy that can find the open spot and then catch the ball)
The TE (Big Yates LOL) can and will cause some matchup problems for teams I look foward to seeing what Collie pulls out of his hat this season
Re: Region D Football schedules
The last football season played was 06, in 04 PV went to the state title game, in 03 GC went to the state title game. Thats two years ago, care to tell me the last Black Diamond District team to go to state? Yes, I know it was Honaker in 00. If you go back 10 years, I think thats a fairly amount of time for defining recent, the LPD has sent 4 teams to the state title game in divison 2 while the Black Diamond has sent 1.
Re: Region D Football schedules
I think it was Honaker in 2000
Re: Region D Football schedules
Oops, edited my post on you. Thought of something else I wanted to say.
Re: Region D Football schedules
In this millenium there has been only one appearance by a current LPD team in the D-2 state finals...hence the use of "not many." I said I agreed with his statement of "the truth" about the BDD.
